Book Video for WHAT DARKNESS BRINGS

The book video for What Darkness Brings is now up on YouTube. (Due to a slight hitch, I'm reposting this, so my apologies to those of you receiving duplicates.)

Publishers seem to love these things, but I've always had the feeling that the only people who watch them are people who already buy my books. What do you think?

Yeah I can't think of a book that the YouTube video ever made me want to go out and get it, might be in the minority here though.

Well, I do appreciate your efforts. The video is effective. I particularly like the pans of historical sights today. It invited me to enter the story, to imagine these spaces populated by the characters. And to my surprise, I discovered a London street children subplot I was not aware of. Ahem. AHEM. ;-)

I bought a book that I found out about from a book trailer once. It was good, mostly, but not quite good enough that I rushed out to buy the next in the series.

The moral, such as it is, being that the book itself is mainly what sells the author.

I'm looking forwards to reading this new one -- speaking of the books motivating readers to buy more from that author. ;-)

Malita, I've watched quite a few of them over the years, looking for ideas, and I find they often make the book look boring--not what the author obviously was hoping!

Paz, this one was fun to make. The London street children part is what PW was talk about in that line about "poignant evocations of the lives of the underpriviledged." You're right; I never mentioned it at all!

Beth, Ah, so they sometimes do work! Where did you see the book trailer that inspired you? On an author's site? Or did you just stumble upon it?

I don't usually watch book videos, except for those of my author friends. This one is impressive -- dramatic music and great visuals. Did you make it yourself? (I don't remember you mentioning it at any of our weekly writers' group meetings, but maybe it was a meeting I missed.) Excellent work.

I'm gonna have to go to You tube. I can't get it to play here. probably some glitch in my system.

Sphinx, yes, I did make it myself over the Christmas break, which is I guess why I forgot to mention it.

Charles, hmmm, I wonder why? I find I have a lot of difficulty getting various things to play these days, probably because my system is getting old. But since it otherwise works fine, I don't feel inclined to upgrade.

Doesn't do it for me. Maybe I want the music to be more appropriate to the period (the musician in me), or maybe it's something else I can't put my finger on... If it were an audio sample read by Davina Porter, I'd be hooked.

I usually decide to read a book based on Amazon's or other website recommendations off of "if you liked that, you'll like this". I'll watch a video if there is one on the site, but mostly it is the write up/summary that will persuade me to read it. Then I get it from the library if it is available. Then, if I LOVE it (which all your books always qualify), I buy it so I can read it again as well as support an author that I like. So, bottom line, doesn't really sway me, but doesn't hurt either. I loved the new video on What Darkness Brings. I looked at your previous books' videos and noticed that each focused on different aspects of the book cover. The new one, you used actual photos to convey images and plot lines--nice touch. Overall, it adds to your website when readers are looking up an author.
I use Amazon in searching new books and authors. (I was reading the Pink Carnation and Lady Julia Grey series when Sebastian St. Cyr books were "recommended, that I may like"--now my absolute favorite, of course!!) Generally, I read write-ups of books and reviewers comments, and decide from there. I don't think the (short) videos would persuade me, other than lead me to the authors website and Amazon (for further consideration).
PS, loved the sweet little gal's post--a most definite future reader in the making!

Again to the surprise story line of street children... The AHEMs involved what I think is a development in Tom's story line... am I right? If so, I can wait even less!

Liz, finding period-appropriate yet legal music is an issue, yes. So much of what's available for this sort of thing is modern.

Corinne, I'm glad you liked the trailer, and I'm glad your mommy likes my books! Thank you.

Sabena, yes, that fits with my thinking.

LOgalinOr, yes, I decided to do something different this time. It's hard coming up with photos that work, but this time the story seemed to lend itself well.

Paz, hmmm...

Some business owners, charities, and fundraisers alike have been caught
up in this web of paperwork and frozen accounts. While he's standing in front of you your customer uses his cell phone to call Pay - Pal and has the payment sent to your number. For an example, if your niche is 'GET MY
EX BACK', then you should write 5 article with useful tips on how your visitors get their ex back.
