Bits and Pieces

First, you'll be happy to know that I finally sent What Darkness Brings to my editor today. Steve and I went out to dinner to celebrate, and of course spent the entire time brainstorming ideas for book number nine. It's starting to come together, but I still have a long ways to go.

Next, some booksignings: I'll be signing When Maidens Mourn at the Garden District Bookstore in New Orleans on March 10, from 2 to 4. And I'll be flying to Houston on March 31st, for a signing at Murder by the Book, at 4:30.

And lastly, some people were asking about the brass table visible in the last post, so here's a better picture of it:

My parents bought the table in Morocco in the late fifties or early sixties when we were living in Spain. Here's a close up of the legs:

Like almost everything else in my office, it went under a foot of water in Katrina and looked awful. But some denatured alcohol followed by shellac brought it right back.

That table really is beautiful, and kudos to you for all the effort you put into saving it from the ravages of Katrina. It is 50 years old but looks brand new! I have chairs that are less than a year old, but look like they came from the Middle Ages.
Here I go again -- but I noticed that dagger or blade on the wall in the background. Is that also a relic from your travels? You have such a fascinating history - sounds like you have travelled all over the world - so I expect that your home is probably full of mementos.
Maidens will be in my greedy paws in less than a month, and another book is done - yay! I hope that I can make it to a book signing this year - maybe something out here in Pacific Northwest - hint, hint? I can personally guarantee you a large turnout!

Charles, it would have broken my heart if I'd had to toss it.

Essex, the dagger on the wall was my dad's; he was head of Air Force intelligence for Spain, North Africa, and the Middle East and spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia. As for making it to the Pacific Northwest...that's a looong way, but maybe eventually!

Larry, sorry, but we haven't had a chance to watch it yet. First I was focused on getting the book finished, and now we're into Mardi Gras, but hopefully we'll be able to snatch the time soon.

Awww, Mardi Gras... jealous!

Well, halfway, anyway. Until I remember the constant traffic reroutes, the crowds,etc... ;)

Gorgeous table. I've got no souvenirs at all to show for my wandering years.

I noticed this tray in your last photo and immediately thought of the incised brass piece Hero noticed in Sebastian's study.

Will you ever have any appearances DC Metro area?

It is wonderful that it was saved from the ravages of Katrina, unlike so many other things. By the way, I second the Pacific Northwest visit/booksigning - Seattle would be great. It's not so far. Don't you have to visit Amazon for something? You could even visit Idaho when you were done with the signing. Twenty two more days and counting. My husband asked me when I was going to re-read the whole series (as I do before every book is released). I'm thinking of starting next weekend. Timing has to be just right. I can't finish too early. Have to go right from book six into seven without skipping more than a day. Grinning like a loon with anticipation... Sabena

Steve, I have to admit that my enthusiasm for Mardi Gras has weakened these last few years. But it's always fun watching friends who've never experienced it before.

Jan, I actually did a signing in D.C. a few years ago. Not sure when I'll be back, but I'll be sure to post it.

Sabena, my daughter just reread the series in preparation for snatching the advance copy I had pictured!
