Finished!

Finally, finally, finally finished Sebastian Book #11.

That's right; it STILL doesn't have a proper title. I came up with one I liked, but the Powers That Be didn't like it, and I must admit I wasn't wild about it myself. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to come up with anything they like any better, and I'm terrified that I'm going to get stuck with something awful.

I already have the idea for #12 swirling around in my head, but it's going on the back burner while I take care of all the things I had to shove to the side during the last final push to get this thing done. This one ran a little long for reasons I will never quite understand. You'd think after writing eleven Sebastian St. Cyr mysteries--and more than twenty books all together--I'd be able to gauge a manuscript's length better, but obviously not.

And now I'm off to play with a kitten--who isn't so little any more!

Oh, what the heck - since you just posted a few minutes ago I'll go first. Well done - so glad you finished it. I imagine the title part is pretty tricky. I sometimes judge a book by it's title, which is stupid, but it makes me realize how important it is...along with the cover art.

Did I not say that Indie would still be with you? He's looking pretty cute - I assume he's feeling better than before the holidays.

While dispatching some of my own shoved-aside chores yesterday I thought, "Ooh, March is even closer now! Sebastian and Hero." Nothing like the anticipation of a grand book to perk up the spirit. Your kitten looks very well - more reason to smile. Take care.

Hurray for finishing! Excellent news.

I'm so ridiculously excited to get a little update on more Sebastian/Hero adventures that it's a little embarrassing. Don't worry about the book being a little longer, I'm sure none of your readers will mind one bit. I sure won't.

I'm curious about the #11 title that got rejected. Is it something you can share here or does it become something like privileged information? Do the powers that be give you reasons why they reject certain titles or do they just give thumbs down? I'm always interested in these behind-the-scenes type stuff.

Indie looks very handsome and happy.

Lynne, sometimes the titles come very easily. But when they don't, I almost never like what it ends up being. And yes, Indie's tummy seems recovered from whatever the problem was, thanks.

Barbara, yes, it's a good thing I finished this because I'm about to get buried under all the pub stuff.

Charles, thank you. I thought I was almost finished with this thing 2 months ago. We went out to dinner to celebrate.

Veronica, I wanted to call it WHEN DOVES FALL. They thought "Doves" was too soft. I said, But the doves are falling because they're dead! No matter. They suggested some alternatives I hated. It looks like it may end up WHEN FALCONS FALL, but it hasn't yet received the final Power's approval yet. I actually already have approval for the title of #12 (WHERE THE DEAD LIE), which is a relief! I don't want to go through this again. We've been emailing back and forth on this title for what seems like forever.

Aww, I like When Doves Fall. It sounds more tragic. Oh well, at least you don't have to worry about #12.

C- my congratulations as well. Titles can be tricky. Some just pull you in. I always liked What Angels Fear and Why Kings Confess as titles. I liked your first idea better. If too soft maybe When Doves Die or Why Doves Die. There was When Gods Die. OK - maybe not. Well Good Luck! And India looks great - very healthy and playful. Maybe he will come up with an idea. Best,Ali

Phew! I was worried that the silence meant there was a glitch, and I would have to wait even longer than March for an installment. (Shamelessly selfish of me...)

Can we surmise that birds will play a prominent role in Sebastian #11? Or is this more a reference to partisans of peace vs. partisans of war?

Indie looks huge. OMG. It looks like he could get some birds to flee for fear of falling...

Veronica, yes; now I just have to worry about #13 and 14 and....

Ali, thank you; it's a real relief.

Paz, I had to block everything out to focus on getting to THE END. And there is a little boy in the book who grows up to be an ornithologist, which is part of the bird references. His name is Charles Bonaparte--Napoleon's nephew. Yes, he was in England in 1813!

Congratulations on the finished book. It must give such a wonderful sense of achievement. It is really good to Indie looking so active and happy again.

And March is getting closer! I am really looking forward to Who Buries The Dead. Gosh, I really like Ali's title suggestions. They are very clever.

I feel really behind, I'm still looking forward to getting my paperback copy of the 9th book in March! Not long to wait. I've just found the Amanda Grange series of Jane Austen hero's diaries to keep me going until then. Very good, particularly Colonel Brandon's one. Anybody else read these?

Suzanne, thank you! And March is really rushing toward us.

Susan, yes, not long now.
