Advance Readers Copies!

My small box of Who Buries the Dead ARCs (advanced readers copies) has arrived. These are bound versions of the uncorrected page proofs that are given away for promotion. And I will be giving a copy away here (and another on Facebook) once I figure out how to do it.

It's always nice to see the ARCs because it means the book is that much closer to going on sale. And once again they've given me a full color ARC (as opposed to the horrible brown paper wrapper things I used to get). But the best part of all is this, from the back cover:

This is the Marketing Campaign information, which tells booksellers how well the publisher is going to support a book's release. And see what it says right up there at the top? Author tour! That's right; it looks as if they're actually, really going to send me on a book tour. They're finalizing the schedule.

Come west! Come west! Tell your agent you must come out to us because you were once an Idaho girl. Please, please!! Okay, I got a little carried away but, gee, this all sounds so exciting for you. Good luck with the give-away - wish I had a brainstorm on how to do it for you. But I'm pretty sure we'll like whatever idea you come up with. It's just exciting to see the book getter closer.

I'm so excite we are so close to another book! Especially as I have just finished rereading all of your previous books for the 4th or 5th time. ( I fly a lot) so I repurchased all of the earlier books in nook format, it is so much easier to fly with them that way. However I am more than willing to read an early release in paper format... :-)
Thank you for your work and imagination,
Steve

Congratulations! ... And be still my beating heart ;0 The level of anticipation just ratcheted up quite a bit. This news, I think, made my week. Thank you.

I do love this cover, and the fact this book is even closer to release.

And wow, a book tour! That's fabulous news. I'm guessing Adelaide's that little bit too far away to make it on to the itinerary, right? Haha. :-) But I do hope you get to travel far and wide nonetheless ... I know you'll have plenty of readers keen to fill up seats.

Congratulations! :-)

C- that is great news. Both things. Advance RC giveaway and even better the book tour! I just hope they consider the Tri-state area a worthy location for a stop on the tour. And i may have to sign up on facebook for a chance to win! there's a scary thought. It sounds like a an exciting year ahead! good for you! best, ali

whoa, a book tour? Wow, how cool.

The cover looks good. I might splash out on the hardback next year, it sounds very intriguing, with Jane Austen's brother Henry in it etc. Good luck with the book tour.

Yes! It is sooooo exciting (both the tour and the giveaway). I agree with Lynne's sentiment. Go west, young man. Or in this case, young woman. Seattle is the place to be. Will be checking in on both blog and Facebook to win the ARC. You know your devoted fans will buy the hardcover anyway, even if they happen to win the ARC. Hope all is well with the menagerie. This is so exciting! I live in Pakistan and have bought every title from the Sebastian series. I do hope that your ARC giveaway is open to international participants. Good luck with the publication and the book tour! :)

Lynne, I have asked my publicist to add someplace in the Northwest to the tour. Not sure if they'll agree.

Steve, thanks so much!

Barbara, thanks!

Rachel, oh, how I wish they would send me to Adelaide! Actually, my dream has long been to be invited to the Adelaide Book Festival.

Ali, if they do go for the Northwest, I suspect it will be Portland.

Charles, I know! I'm very excited.

Susan, it is a pretty cover.

Sabena, if only Seattle weren't so far away.

Anon, thank you! Still working out the details.

Oooh, I'm really excited about your author tour. I know publishers love Powell's in Portland, but please oh please do come to Seattle, too. It was too long ago when I met you last.

Wow, how exciting. You not only have the ARCS, which look beautiful, but you get a book tour just like Jessica Fletcher!! Like Rachel I am guessing Australia is too far away. We have a book festival here in Melbourne now, and there is one in Sydney too. It is great to see the ARCs as it means that publishing date is getting that much closer.

PS. Ali, what is the Tri-state?

Eek! So, so happy to see the book is that much closer to being in my hands. And I'm just thrilled to see that you'll be going on tour. It's hard to believe that this will be your first tour for this series. I'm crossing my fingers that you hit somewhere in Texas. I'll take a day off of work to drive there no matter where it is. Well, maybe except for El Paso. That's a bridge too far, so to speak.

P.S. I've seen other book blogs use something called Rafflecopter to choose random winners for giveaways. I've never looked into it but it's an idea.

c- do you think the would send you to the northeast? NYC or that area?
best, ali

Keira, they kinda gulped when I said, "What about the Northwest?" In some ways I suppose it is better if an author lives in Kansas--right in the middle of everything.

Suzanne, the Tri-Cities is a metropolitan area in Washington state--Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland--that is at the junction of three counties.

Veronica, they have sent me to Houston before, but I don't think one city constitutes a "tour"! I do think Houston is on the list again, along with Phoenix. I'll have to look into Rafflecopter, although I'm not sure I get enough traffic to justify using an outside outfit. I was supposed to meet with a friend last night who does this sort of thing all the time, but unfortunately New Orleans was hit by an awful storm and we had to cancel.

Ali, I honestly don't know. I asked to see the short list but haven't heard anything. I know Houston and Phoenix because when I suggested them I was told they're on the proposed list; when I suggested someplace in the Northwest, they sorta gulped. I suggested NY and didn't get a response. NYC hotels are expensive, I guess. The truth is, I don't think book tours are very cost effective, so I'm surprised they're doing this. Happy, but surprised.

Houston, yes!! I've driven there several times for author signings in the past (I'm in San Antonio) so making the trip for you and Sebastian is a no brainer. I'm betting you'll be at Murder by the Book, which a great indie bookstore. Fingers crossed Houston stays on the final list.

I have not seen mention of any mid-west city on your potential book tour..... May I humbly suggest Cleveland? We have one of the best library systems in the country and you have many many avid fans here. :) Congrats on the increasing popularity of your books

With choosing the winner of the giveaway, when we had raffles at church we used to write people's names on paper, scrunch them up and put them in a bucket, then get somebody who wasn't involved to close their eyes and pull one out. As there aren't a huge number of us regulars that would be my advice.

c- oh i understand. i live here and it still astonishes me what things cost. well we shall see what they decide and take it from there. who knows? i plan to stay optimistic! there is plenty of doom and gloom around without me adding to it. best, Ali

Oh, I go to the Adelaide Festival's Writers' Week every year, it's fantastic! And it would be SO brilliant to see you at one ... might have to see what can be done! :-)

Oh, so excited to hear the next St Cyr book is not t-o-o far away! Best of luck with the book tour and your ARC giveaways. No point wishing you'll get to New Zealand with the tour :)

I really hope they add San Francisco or Marin County to your tour. I am so excited. I began proof reading ARC in college as a way to hone my writing craft & read books that I'd otherwise have to scrimp & save to buy. Now I do it for the love be of reading great books & helping the author with a second set of "eyes" so to speak. I'd love to be a part of the process with you either now with this latest Sebastian story or down the road. If you have any advice on how to achieve this, I'd appreciate it. Now my inner fan girl is squealing in anticipation of Sebastian & Hero's latest adventure!

Veronica, I hope I'll see you there!

Rebecca, I don't know if they have anything in the midwest in mind. I'll have to ask. A lot depends on there being a mystery-friendly independent bookstore.

Suzanne, yes, I think that's probably the low-tech option I'll go with!

Ali, one of these days I really need to simply go up to NY again myself. My agent and I have been talking about meeting up there.

Rachel, I would LOVE to go back to Adelaide.

Cate,I must say, that would be nice!

Kelly, I don't know if their proofreaders are in-house or not.

Please come to Baltimore or D.C.! Love Sebastien St.. Cyr and your writing. Let us know how to enter to win a copy of the early release!

Like others, I'm hoping Texas, as well. But, San Antonio would work so nicely. Never realized how many steps there were to getting books out in the market place. I have a friend who has 2 books published but have never thought to ask him the process. Congratulations on the nearly completed read. Will you throw a celebration party when Sebastian is ready to be delivered to your faithful following or crash in a comfy chair with a glass of wine? In any case, we will be celebrating with you.
