New Blog Interview!

I have a new interview up at the blog Mysteries and My Musings. The blog owner, Ariel, asks some great questions. So if you ever wanted to know why I write, how I go about coming up with the idea for a new murder, what Sebastian and I have in common, how I go about creating characters, or who my favorite literary sleuth is, head on over there!

Also, I have some great news coming up, so stay tuned....

Great interview; some things I didn't know even after years of following you. I laughed when I read you had a newsletter. Really? I had no idea? Guess I should sign up for it, huh? Looking forward to hearing the wonderful news. I'm on pins and needles. Sabena

Charles, some of the questions were quite thought provoking.

Sebena, I must admit my newsletter is very hit or miss--I remember to send it out when my webmistress pokes me, and there is nothing in it that i don't post here.

That was a quality interview, Candace. I appreciate your consideration in sharing those insights with us - especially when I realized that you admire the likes of Dorothy Dunnett and Martin Cruz Smith. Ms. Dunnett is superb - love her "King Hereafter" and last week I began her Francis Crawford of Lymond series. Martin Cruz Smith, with his Arkady Renko - wow. I think he and John LeCarre are non pareil. Didn't mean to go on so, but thank you, thank you!

C-so glad you told us about this interview. It was very interesting to read about your process and how you decide to tell your stories. I confess I have never read a Martin Cruz Smith book - yikes. but I may need to change that now. so excited about why kings confess. counting the days. and I too wish I was as brave, confident, and self-possessed as Hero! actually I would settle for one of those qualities in some measure. thanks again for sharing. best, ali

Ali, I just finished reading the latest MCS and sat up ALL NIGHT to finish it. I suggest starting with Gorky Park, not because they need to be read in order, but because it's fascinating to watch the changes as the USSR evolves into modern Russia.

C- Ok - well I'm in the middle of a Harry Dresden novel right now. But looks like I will be getting on the MCS bandwagon. But I must confess when I get a new Sebastian book I stay up all night to read it as well!! Then of course I read it again more slowly a few days later. I always miss stuff the first time. Ali

Hi Candace.
Very interesting interview.
Did you and your sister ever compare your writing processes? Are they similar or different?

Ali, I do like his first 3 or 4 Arkady books better than the later ones. I haven't cared for his stand alone historicals, which is odd.

Lily, my sister and I talk about writing and books and the publishing industry so much it drives my daughters crazy. But the funny thing is, I'm not sure we ever compared our processes, apart from the fact she also plots her books in detail. I do know she composes at her computer and doesn't print out until she is finished, a habit that would give me an anxiety attack. I print out each chapter, as I do not trust computers.
