Hold Part of That Happy Dance...

So, the good news is that books eleven and twelve are coming.

But... Number 9, Why Kings Confess, will be published in March 2014. Number 10, Who Buries the Dead will be released in March 2015. Number Eleven is scheduled for March 2016. And Number Twelve is scheduled for March 2016.

I know, I know. Believe me, it's all been very confusing. Part of the problem is that the proposed shifting dates were confusing me, the publisher, and the booksellers. Plus, booksellers and readers have grown accustomed to seeing a new Sebastian St. Cyr book come out in March. Soooo, while I will still be writing to a faster schedule, it has been decided that for now we will stick to the March release dates. Then, when I've turned in so many books ahead of time that I'm hopelessly confused, the extra book will be released in November, with the next Sebastian book after that following close behind again in March.

Confused? The fault is all mine for broadcasting what I thought was the firm scheduling for Who Buries the Dead, but was not. I was saying, "Why didn't anyone tell me?" when the truth was I hadn't been told because it was actually not the done deal I thought it was. I mean...

Oh, nevermind. At any rate, sorry for the confusion, sorry for getting everyone's hopes up only to dash them. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

The silver lining in all of this is that eventually there be two Sebastian books published in one year, only that year will not be 2014. At the moment it's looking like it may be 2016, but don't quote me on that!

Hello Candy,

All I can say is, I'm very pleased to know, that there are four more Sebastian St.Cyr books in the pipeline!

Really look forward to the next one!

Hooray.

I'm used to yearly releases so this is fine with me. I'm just happy to have more books to savor.

Oh well - just more time to savor and anticipate! I'm still holding on to perhaps getting a visit in the Pacific Northwest. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one. Sabena

Ahh, I'll have my cake without frosting, it will still taste great. Looking forward to learning more about Sebastian and Hero's lives, as well as the deaths that surround them ;-)

Firefly, well that's good to hear!

JustWIngingit, I have more planned, too!

Sabena, thank you for not being too upset. What do you think would be best--Portland or Seattle? Any particular bookshops that are mystery-friendly?

Paz, ah, yes, the deaths....

It would probably be overkill to say I was going to throw myself off a rock (albeit a small one)because of this change, wouldn't it??? Okay, just kidding and because I love Sebastian & Hero I'll live with the change. Although just for a moment I was in heaven thinking of TWO books in one year. But then I remembered that you're the girl writing and you need some sort of life in between books. And 4 more books makes me even happier because whenever a good series ends - at least for me - I'm always in mourning for awhile. I imagine most readers would agree that it's like losing a good friend. So congrats on a great committment from the publisher.

Well, I have finally picked myself off the floor after my crying and screaming fit after reading your news!
In truth, the year passes by shockingly quickly - I am still wondering what happened to my summer. And it is always nice to have something to look forward to in March. March is very gray and wet here in Oregon, and I do so enjoy curling up with a cup of coffee, a warm blanket, my fuzzy dog, and a Sebastian book !
So although I would love for you to visit Portland- Powell's comes to mind- Seattle would work for me too!

Come to Portland, please. Sadly, our Murder By The Book store closed earlier this year. But Powell's bookstore is legendary. It is a well known 'must see' if visiting Portland.
"Bloody hell", as Sebastian would say, that there will only be one St. Cyr book in 2014, but at least our much loved series continues. Did you say somewhere, that your original plan was for 16 books? Besides What Angels Fear, Where Shadows Dance, is my other favorite cover with the images of Hero and Sebastian. Will that one be redone-what's your sentiment of that cover?

Imh, I practically have whiplash from all this, and I definitely have a headache. I also bought myself a cinnamon roll tonight from Whole Foods as some sort of consolation for all the trauma.

Essex, the truth is that the thought of the books being due and coming out all over the calendar had me beyond confused. I am actually happy to be back in my March slot, with a November book eventually being slipped in there. The book I'm currently writing is due in just six weeks but won't be released for another 17 months, so hopefully we'll be creeping up on that extra book soon.

LOgalinOR, I'll suggest either Portland and Seattle, and hope they chose one. I like some parts of the Shadows cover, especially the male figure coming out of the misty cemetery, but I've always been irritated by the very un-Regency silhouette of the woman's dress. I wanted them to have her face covered by a hood so that she was more mysterious, so it was a bit of a shock when she was so, well, visible. And since she's fair, she can't really be Hero, so I've never been sure who she was supposed to be. I do love the color blue they used.

I assure you, you are forgiven.

This is a bummer, but more books is more books is more books. As many authors struggle to obtain/maintain their book contracts with traditional publishers, I'm very pleased we'll keep seeing Sebastian and Hero even if it means only once a year.

Indeed, the best news is that more coming our way. Honestly Candy, if you come all the way to the PNW, you should include Seattle AND Portland. Elliot Bay's store in Seattle has signings in our very modernistic public library. It would be a fun venue. Here's the website:
http://www.elliottbaybook.com/ Powell's in Portland is legendary.

Looks like you have a lot of reasons to come to Portland or Seattle! I'll second (or third, or fourth) Powell's as an unbeatable choice for venue . . .

Good grief, girl - give yourself more than one cinnamon role. I was exhausted reading about it - can't imagine how you felt! But I'm really happy for you and the future of our characters.

The cinnamon roll is well deserved, btw. I'm in Seattle, but would drive to Portland to get to see you!!! I'm more of a Barnes and Noble girl myself and I know they have authors in all the time. Just let us in PNW know where and we'll likely all manage to get there. Sabena

Any Sebastian and Hero I can get whenever I can is just dandy with me. Seriously, they're two of my favorite fictional people, and I love the history. I could go on and on ... Just take care of yourself ... however many cinnamon rolls that may require:)

c- I'm still doing the happy dance because I know more books are in the works. and in the end that's all that really matters to me. especially this next one. I'm so looking forward to it and what awaits our dynamic duo. besides a baby. but the cinnamon roll still sounds like a great idea. I would have gone for 2! the trauma...
best,ali

awwww :(

I say awww, but honestly I know that that's a lot of crunching for you.

btw - did you ever model for the cover of a book when you were a kid? There is a little kid on the cover of this book that looks so much like you!

cs harris said...

Charles, thank goodness!

Courtney, yes, I've very happy with the new contract.

LinP, thanks; I'll put them on my list. Fingers crossed!

RevMelinda, I've never been to Powell's myself, but my daughter was over the moon with it.

Imhess, since my husband developed diabetes, I try to deny my sweet tooth so I don't torture him. As a result, when I DO eat something sweet, I feel like I've committed some giant sin!

Sabena, there do seem to be a lot of Sebastian readers in the PNW.

cs harris said...

Barbara, thank you!

Ali, the funny part is I cut the cinnamon roll in half and had part for desert and part for breakfast. i really do need to indulge more often!

LeFleur, Believe me, a part of me is disappointed, too. And no, I never modeled for anything ever. Which book? I'm one of those people who still looks almost exactly the way I did as a child--with a lot of mileage added.
