Holiday Time

This has been a hectic Christmas, with lots of out-of-town guests, a widening pool of flu victims, a Christmas tree that smashed to the ground (breaking several dozen of my favorite ornaments and burying the village at its feet), and sundry other happenings. But we managed to get the tree back up and the village rebuilt, and we're muddling through and still having lots of fun.

These photos were taken with my iPhone, because it's much easier to just snap and email the images, so they're not of the best quality. The two above are of my buffet village, while below are the resurrected tree (bolted and wired to the ceiling) with its village, and a closeup of the village harbor...

Here's hoping your holidays are full of good cheer!

I love those villages. I need to do that. It's cool. I might people mine with little alien figurines though.

Happy New Year!!! Seeing your village makes me think of an online card I saw this year where there is light music in the background showing the village and then all of a sudden Godzilla type music. The cat comes through and starts tumbling everything in the village and eating the various parts. It is very funny. Somehow, I keep seeing your cats in your village. Hope you can keep them out. I love your display. My mother in law does similar ones. Some years back I tried to do one myself, but the cottages and figures disappeared into my children's rooms within a day of being displayed. We quickly rescued what we still could, and packed them away.

The next year we had our kids decorate with Legos, and have done so since. Not quite the same effect, though...

The misty harbor and village houses almost look like something from a Sebastian novel (or maybe I'm just obsessing as we get closer to publication date of the next in the series).

Best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous New Year for all.

Charles, I've also seen cute Halloween villages with little witches and vampires!

Sabena, Happy New Year! My big black cat Huckleberry likes to stroll down the High Street and then curl up next to the trunk like the dragon that lurks in the cave on the side of the mountain. He's always very unhappy when the tree comes down.

Paz, thank you. That's funny about your kids. I gave my daughters villages of their own when they got old enough. And that is a neat idea to make them out of Legos!

Susan, that's funny! And Happy New Year.

Larry, thank you. And my snail mail address is:
