Babylon Has a Cover!

I received the final version of The Babylonian Codex cover today. I'm told the right edge that appears yellow in the image above will actually be a gold foil.

It's a very striking cover. I have some concerns that it might appear too dark on the shelf, that the title might not have enough contrast, that it might be too busy for a paperback. But all in all I'm pleased. Here's the image for the stepback, or inside front cover:

And if you're wondering what they changed, they tweaked the contrasts a bit, and originally they had the girl on the cover running away. Every woman I showed the cover to said the same thing: their eye immediately went to her butt (ironically, none of the men I showed it to had the same reaction). So in the new version she's turned around. Here's the original:

I assume she's supposed to be Tobie, although the running woman in The Archangel Project was a much better representation of my image of Tobie. In the space of three books, she's grown six inches, lost ten pounds, and acquired some artificial enhancements. My agent says this woman looks like an assistant professor late for class.

But this all just being picky. I do like this cover! Whadya think?

I think it's a great cover. Interesting that they turned the woman around. She is a bit skinny. I remember what the original "draft" looked like.

I like it - look forward to seeing the 'gold' in action because i think that will really make the cover jump out.

It does look pretty cool, but (she says with a grin) they covered up the 'kilt' ;0 I am eager to read Jax and Tobie's next 'assignment' ... very eager ...

So - if they can just make me grow 3 inches and lose 10 pounds ;-) It looks fantastic I think. The gold will be better than the yellow, I think. Can't wait to read it. Sabena

Nice! I think once the gold foil is on there, it's going to do a huge amount towards making the cover stand out. Foil has a way of doing that. :)

Charles, I agree they did a good job. And yeah, that model must be about 6 feet tall and weigh maybe 105 (although the silicon may add a couple of pounds).

Liz, the foil affects should be quite striking. With Solomon they did a holographic effect.

Barbara, they covered up the kilt AND the tablet! This one will be out in December, so not long now.

Sabena, ah, if only they could work the same majic on me!

Misti, good! It seems to be meeting with general approval.

Barbara, the gold foil edge was another change they made when I complained about it being too dark; at first they had the edge black. The foil should help catch the light.

LOVE the color palette!
December seems so far away now. Hope Tobie gets some respect somewhere in this book. And maybe there's an Andrei cameo appearance.

Seriously, breakout novel.

I'm standing by my prediction. :)

Great cover! And I'm chuckling over the additions and deletions to the woman :)

Lainey, I do intend to bring Andrei back soon.

Steve, I hope you're right. The house seems to be getting excited about this one.

Leslie, thank you. As for Jax and Tobie, I envisioned a Moonlighting kind of thing that builds slowly. They're so busy running around saving the world, there's not a lot of time for much else!

Orannia, I'm glad you like it. And yes, it is funny.

Oh YES! And I think Liz is right about the gold. People will want to pick up and touch.

Did you know that this cover has the same female in the same pose as the book "the last testament" by sam bourne?

I saw the book today and was weirded out by it because I remembered the cover of this book
