MERMAIDS Makes Its YouTube Debut

Well, I did it. The book trailer—or book video—or whatever you want to call it—for WHY MERMAIDS SING is up on YouTube.

Now that I see it on YouTube, I’d probably do it differently if I had it to do over—black writing instead of white, for instance. Do I expect this video to help sell the book? No. So why did I do it?

Um...

I like it. I agree that the white lettering is a little hard to read, but I love the soundtrack. I have What Angels Fear here on my TBR stack and hope to get to it soon. I'm curious about how much of an investment one of these is and how much impact the marketeers believe it has on book buyers.

Lisa, the investment was a couple of days of frustration and feeling like an idiot learning how to use imovies! I looked at four different companies that make them, decided I liked the short, simple ones best, and with typical arrogance said, "Well, I can do that!"

As far as impact goes, I suspect the more common they become, the less impact they'll have--if they have any at all. But I know my publisher was excited that I was doing it, and keeping one's publisher happy is very, very important!

I've seen several of these done very well by Elizabeth Chadwick. I think they can be effective if they can reach and audience by I am sceptical about youtube's audience wanting to watch book trailers.......

If I didn't know you, I'd still want to know more about that book. Great job!
