Focusing

I can't believe how long it's been since I put up an new blogpost. My excuse is that I've been focusing on getting this $#%& book finished in time for Christmas. But I've resigned myself to the fact that's not going to happen, and now I'm simply trying to get it to a good stopping point. Angel's been helping by draping himself over my arm while I'm trying to write.

I've decided to do the ARC giveaway for WHO BURIES THE DEAD after Christmas, when life will be more sane. Hope that doesn't disappoint anyone too much. I'll be putting up another post soon, I promise! Now back to work...

As long as there is an ARC giveaway eventually, I don't think anyone will mind when it happens.
Happy holidays!

Just keep writing and we'll be waiting. And have a wonderful Christmas season!

Hearing from you is great whenever it happens. Have a wonderful holiday - your tree and train and inquisitive feline are adorable.

I can wait for the ARC giveaway, no problem. Even if I don't win, March will be here before we know it.

Do your cats handle the Christmas tree well? A couple of years ago my husband and I awoke to the sound of a crash around 2 in the morning. Our cat had apparently attempted to climb our Christmas tree and brought the whole thing down.

I'm hoping to get some writing done over Christmas break. If the research studies would stop coming in at school so I could get time.

Glad all is OK! Was starting to worry as sometimes bad things have happened when you haven't posted in a while. But I did see a couple of the facebook posts so was hoping you were just busy. Oh, and I normally get my hard copy books from Barnes&Noble online (with kindle coming from Amazon). Since you will be in Seattle in March, I assume I should buy my hardcopy book at the bookstore you will be visiting. My question is - do I have to pre-order it there or will is it OK to just assume I can buy a copy there? Sabena

You do writing by hand?
(If so, WOW!)

Jikie, thank you!

Lynne, I'm about ready to wrap it up; my daughter arrives tomorrow.

Barbara, I'm going to try to do a post on my Christmas decorations. They're one of the things that take my time at Christmas.

Veronica, I've never had problems with my cats and the tree, but then, Indie is not allowed in that part of the house (I shudder just at the thought!). We now have a permanent bolt in the ceiling, though, and every year we wire the tree to it. I've a couple of crashes over the years, although none were caused by cats.

Charles, hope it works out for ya!

Sabena, I was shocked when i realized how the time had zipped past. And yes, it might be a good idea to preorder through the bookstore.

Le Fleur, I do, yes! Always with that exact legal pad and that exact pen. Like most modern writers, I'd switched to composing at the computer. But after Katrina I had to write by hand and I found I liked it so much better, I've been doing it ever since. I type up and print out each chapter or major scene as I go along. I recently read a study that showed the tactile stimulation from holding a pen is good for creativity.

I can't believe I just had to prove I'm not a robot on my own blog.

C- so happy you're back. Although I figured Hero, Sebastian and Simon were keeping you occupied. Not to mention your actually family life. Can’t wait for March and its only Christmas! Good luck with the rest of your writing and I'm sure everybody could use an Angel on their arm. Cat or not. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas holiday! Best always, Ali

Indie versus the Christmas tree. The battle would be epic. On that note, cat people might appreciate the following video:

c - PS. Love the picture of your tree and its guardian. :-) When I was a kid my mom was forever saying - "will one of you please get the cat off the top of the tree! She had a tendency to climb up it. Ali

Ali, thank you. I managed to get everything done on the book I wanted to get to before I quit for the holidays. Now I'm just wrapping presents and anxiously waiting for my older daughter to arrive. It's been pouring practically all the way from San Antonio.

Veronica, that's hilarious! Thank you.

Ali, I've never had a cat climb my tree, but I have no doubt Indie would if given the chance. I remember very clearly the way he was scrambling up trees when I found him at 8 weeks.

I hope you have a very happy and safe Christmas with your family and a well earned break. When I was a child our dog at the time, Sandy, used to have a great time with the Christmas tree. Every time he didn't get his own way he would give us a meaningful look then go over and knock something off it. After Christmas Dad would give it to him to demolish in the backyard, which he did with remarkable speed. I remember one year when he tried to get it inside through the doggie door and it got stuck. Dad had to saw it in several places to get it out.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas. Can we have some more blogs on Regency London when you get back to normality please?

Candy - if Indie the terror decides to go near the tree without permission, throw a couple of loud jingle bells at his feet - it worked with our cat years ago. Oh - she hated that sound and "exited stage right" in a flash.
And I have a question - because I can't remember - what years are Hero and Sebastian living in? I just got the most fabulous costume book and am trying to visualize all my favorite characters in the appropriate clothes. (The book covers mid 1700's through the 20th century with an emphasis on late 1700's to late 1800's.)
Now I have to prove I'm not a robot....

Suzanne, thank you. And I loved the story about your dog.

Susan, thank you. And yes, once I finish this next manuscript I hope to do more on the "Sebastian's London" series.

Lynne, that's an idea. At the moment our cat household is seriously traumatized because my daughter brought a dog home for Christmas! And WHO BURIES THE DEAD is set in the spring of 1813.

Candy, I love your books. I only started reading them a couple of months ago. The writing is brilliant and what I love most is the secrets running through the whole series. I find I cannot wait to get to the next book to see what poor twist happens to Sebastian. Here is a question I expect you have been asked a million times, if they were to turn the series into movies who would you like to play Sebastian? Have a great Christmas.

Alan, thanks so much! As for who I'd like to see play Sebastian, I honestly haven't seen any actor who fits Sebastian as I envision him.
