Sometimes, Life Sucks

It's been a bad week. I had a close encounter of the clumsy kind with a tree branch and tried to poke out my right eye. I'd show you the lovely picture of me with half the side of my face bandaged, but the Internets are forever, so it ain't gonna happen. The good news is that it will hopefully be all right in the end. But I haven't managed to get much done over the last ten days or so because eyes are rather important to a writer.  I was able to devote some of those hours I spent lying in a darkened room with my eyes closed to plotting out my next book, though, so it wasn't a complete loss.

And then, probably because I was so stressed, I came down with a nasty respiratory infection. (And don't even get me started on my mom's house!) Hopefully things will sort themselves out in a few days. In the meantime, that's a picture of Indie eating the manuscript for Sebastian # 11. Yes, he still doesn't have  home of his own, and this manuscript still doesn't have a title. Maybe September will be better.

Ah, what a rotten week, Candy. Hope you recover from everything very soon.
I had to laugh at Indie, though. One of our cats does the exact same thing to any paper left unguarded - to such an extent that one of my kids once really had to use the excuse, "my cat ate my homework!" :-)

Oh dear, you and Suzanne need to talk...she's got the crud as well. I'm so sorry that the tree and you had a fight and it won...but at least you have an excuse to do nothing in the hot weather. September will improve and Indie is pretty sure that he's staying. I said it have no choice. Take care of yourself.

Sorry to hear you have had such a traumatic time lately. I hope you feel better soon. I've just finished 'Midnight Confessions'. I really enjoyed it, it is so full of the atmosphere of old New Orleans and it gave me a great insight into the American Civil War. Zach is a charismatic character, a kind of American Sabastian! I liked the tension you created between Zach and Emmanuelle being on different sides of the war and yet drawn to each other. The added interest of Voodoo, murder, poisons and a complicated racial mix made for fascinating reading. I also liked the political questions you raised such as; was the war really about freeing slaves and if it was, why was Lincoln so slow to free them? Also, as Emmanuelle argues, the fact that at the same time as the North were supposed to be fighting to free the slaves, children as young as five years old were forced to work in factories in the North, making them free only in name. A brilliant book, it deserves to be seen as so much more than just a romance or even a mystery.

Rachel, thanks.

Lynne, yes, this is a good time of year to spend in a cool, dark room!

Mike, thanks!

Veronica, ha!

Charles, thanks; it is getting better.

Susan, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm trying very, very hard to get my rights back to that book. Hopefully one day....

I am sorry to hear that you have been in the wars. You need to relax and take care of yourself.

I agree with Susan's opinion of Midnight Confessions. It is a truly beautiful book.

So sorry to hear of your accident, but glad that you are taking good care of your injury. And that picture of your kitty is toooo cute.
I guess he is also "voracious" about books in his own way.

I do hope you get the rights back again, this book deserves fresh marketing and a wider audience.

Suzanne, I had a nice bottle of wine tonight, and that helped. And it's great to hear you enjoyed Midnight Confessions, as well!

Paz, he does seem to really, really like paper, which is not good!

Susan, I've been trying for YEARS. By contract, they should be mine.
