Emap, yes, the colors are interesting, and I do like the ominous mood. I still don't think they hit it quite right, but it's certainly much better suited to the series than What Remains of Heaven!

Malita, even I don't have an actual book yet! The ARCs they send out have these ugly plain brown covers that are truly awful.
I really like it! The castle, and the blood on the fence spikes (nice touch!) are very hyper real. The male figure is less so, and I think the tension between the two images works well.
And there is the quote!!! So Lisa Gardner, ah? I'm pretty sure I have seen her books in the crime section of airport bookstores... Will definitely pick one up next time, and she what her work is about.

OMG!!! It looks amazing! We have a better glimpse of what Sebastian may really look like, not a shadowy presence or figure, as in previous covers........(double)sigh.
Ms. Harris, you're tormenting us, with more anxiety and angst until release. But thank you for sharing the cover with us. I think it all comes together nicely, with the color schemes and design, the buildings, the title, and of course, Sebastian St. Cyr himself. The cover suggests mystery, drama, intrigue, suspense, romance---what more can you ask for?
Well done---I think your fans will be pleased and the cover itself will entice new readers. In the meantime (sheer agony), I am reading your earlier historical romances, highly recommend!

I've now read the first 6 books and am totally hooked. Well done. This cover is the best so far. Love the birds (hawks?). Do you feel like the cover is true to the content of the novel?
Hmmmm.....I really like the castle, railing and outer soft edges. I'm having trouble with the Sebastian figure. Maybe I like leaving him more to my imagination. I think we actually may see him a little too clearly. I think I would have rather it been more of a shadowy figure. That being said, it is much better than What Remains of Heaven. My favorites still are Why Mermaids Sing, When Maidens Mourn and What Angels Fear.Lisa Gardner, huh? Well, my friends and I were wrong. We were thinking Phillipa Gregory. Just can't wait until March. I just watched a special on the Hope Diamond and it made me even more excited. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!! Sabena
Paz, that's good to hear. Funny, I liked the fence, but Steve said it looks like a row of bloody Zulu spears! And yes, Lisa writes contemporary suspense.

Jillian, thanks so much, that's great to hear! And yes, I do think the cover does a good job of reflecting a certain event in the book-or at least, as close as they ever get.
Sabena, that's interesting! It's a good thing they didn't show even more of his face. I admit he's not as lean as I've always pictured Sebastian. And I agree with you on previous covers--Angels, Mermaids, and Maidens are my favorites, too. Interestingly, I think my editor once tried to get Gregory to give a quote, but she's as hard a "get" as Ann Perry.
Great cover! It has a really ominous, moody sense to it, with the fence spikes and the tower and those circling birds ... congratulations! :-)
Excellent cover! I really like the colour, and the ravens circling the tower are a lovely sinister touch. And it will attract attention, so will draw in new victims - sorry, readers - who will then have to read the whole series...

Courtney, the colors are very unusual; hopefully they will hold through to the final product (nasty, unexpected changes sometimes creep in!). And I suppose one could see Sebastian as beginning to emerge from his darkest period!

Like the colors and design very much- gives a creepy feeling that goes with the black magic theme of the book (hope I am remembering properly!) But I do agree with Sabena- I found myself frowning at Sebastian's image - I am not sure why, but it just wasn't how I pictured the character. I still love the cover though. Funny- was reading Mermaids while waiting for my turkey to roast, and thinking that it would be nice to get a peek at the cover or even an excerpt (please?) And there the cover was! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

naturally like your web site but you have to check
the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife
with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to

It is wonderful! The spears with colors pull the whole thing together and redeem it from being too somber, imo. Question though, there is what looks to be a light fixture with a bulb under the cross, were there oil lamps like that then? And is that a monastic house or a castle? In any event, that is perfect.
And Sebastian. Hubba.
I only noticed the light fixture when in enlarged the cover. I figured the fixture would not be discernible on a regular hard cover, and certainly not in paper back. But I could be wrong.

Anon, that's why I always stutter when anyone asks what actor I'd like to see play him: no one alive looks like "my" Sebastian, and I suspect everyone's Sebastian is a bit different.
Jan, OMG, you're right! That is a light bulb! I'm going to have to tell them right away. I sent them photos of a church and an old monastery, both of which appear in the book, but this is neither. And obviously from a photograph! I still can't believe they put a lightbulb in there...

Who is the model on the cover? Even though I can't see his face, that is exactly how I pictured him...kind of like a Hugh Dancy look alike.

Oh my gosh. I didn't even notice the light until you pointed it out. I was so concentrating on the male figure I completely missed it. Too funny, how most of us didn't see it. Once enlarged, you can really see it. Speaking of concentrating on the male figure, it looks like it has brown hair. (I've been really staring at it to try and figure out why it doesn't look like Sebastian to me). I have to go back and read the books again, but I've always pictured him with black hair. Help me out - have I just been picturing him wrong this whole time? Sabena
It's been amusing to read all the reactions and comments to the WDB cover amongst the devoted. I did see that light "fixture" but did not think much of it at the time. Now it seems that it has become a little "bone" to pick at-LOL. Perhaps a little "photo shop-ping" may be in order?
It's no surprise that Sebastian St. Cyr would conjure up many different images, since he has been pictured as a shadowy figure on past covers, both from the front and backside (Where Serpents Sleep and Where Shadows Dance). My "irresistibly sexy" image of Sebastian was with dark brown, wavy hair, but I will have to peruse my books on that one.
I also hope, that in What Darkness Brings, that in the end, Sebastian emerges out of that dark period of his life and into a happier and fulfilling one. He certainly deserves it! At the end of WMM, Sebastian and Hero were still in the stages of discovering one another and looking forward to that delayed honeymoon together......sigh
My pointing out the light fixture wasn't bone picking, it was to alert Candy to an anachronism caused by her publisher. Historical accuracy is a hallmark of her books and I knew she would be want to contact her publisher before it got into production. She has shared her dismay at previous departures from her instructions so it was a heads up, not a cavil. Jan Power

I apologize about that little "bone" picking---I meant it only in a humorous and light hearted context (comments exchanged by the readers). Nothing more than that. I also don't want to trivialize the importance of getting historical details down correctly. You have a sharp eye and caught that one-well done.

Tiffany, I don't have a clue who they used for the model. And I hate to admit it, but I had to Google Hugh Dancy. I was surprised to discover he's 37; he looks much younger!

Sabena, I always pictured him with very dark, almost-but-not-quite black hair. I never thought about it consciously, but I now realize I was probably picturing him with the hair color shared by my mother and my elder daughter. Jamie Knox's hair is darker.
LOgalinOR, I think it is probably better that each reader is allowed to picture Sebastian they way they prefer, since we probably all have our own vision of what an we consider attractive and strong. And he and Hero do take a giant step in this book.
Jan, I know, and I would have responded soon if I hadn't been laid low by a stomach bug the last two days. Oh, the misery...
