"The past casts a long shadow in Harris’s best Regency whodunit yet, the eighth after 2013’s What Darkness Brings. In January 1813, a case comes to aristocratic sleuth Sebastian St. Cyr, estranged son of the Earl of Hendon, Chancellor of the Exchequer, from his closest friend, Dr. Paul Gibson. On an East London street, Gibson stumbled across a grisly scene—a woman seriously wounded near the butchered corpse of a French physician, Damion Pelletan, whose heart was removed. The murder and assault coincide with a possible turning point in Anglo-Franco relations. The English are considering making peace with Napoleon, a prospect that does not sit well with the French royalists in exile. The powers that be, including St. Cyr’s überpowerful father-in-law, Lord Jarvis, who’s a cousin of the king, attribute the Pelletan murder to a footpad, but the investigator finds that theory unpersuasive, especially after learning the mutilation has resonance for survivors of the Terror who remember that the Dauphin’s heart was removed in an autopsy. Harris melds mystery and history as seamlessly as she integrates developments in her lead’s personal life into the plot. Agent: Helen Breitwieser, Cornerstone Literary. (Mar.) PW's Starred Review of WHY KINGS CONFESS
Here is Publishers Weekly's entire review of Why Kings Confess. Above is a scan that gives you an idea of what a "boxed" review looks like on the page--lots of nice, attention-grabbing red, and of course a picture of the cover. Readers have told me that libraries almost always order books that receive starred, boxed reviews, and bookstores will frequently increase their orders. So it's a very nice thing, indeed.

Wow!!! It can't get better than this, or can it--for a book review and preview(?). As Shakespeare once said "That it should come to this!" LOL. Congrats to you Candice! The book will be out before you know it. We are all chomping at the bit.....sigh. The accolades and praises for the Sebastian series will only get louder, indeed.
Aren't we lucky Feb. is a short month? I am working diligently to clear the decks so I can just dive into '... Kings Confess,' so on that note I'll say 'Huzzah,' and bid you adieu. Congrats and take care.
Congrats!! I dutifully liked your facebook page and left a comment there as well. Hmmm...guess I'm not "anonymous" anymore. I'm more of a lurker on facebook myself, and just can't get into the tweeting thing either. But definitely would love more blog posts, it's always fun to read about what is going on. Sabena
LOgalinOR, thanks!
Barbara, you're right, I hadn't thought about February being a short month.
Sabena, thank you! Everyone's been so great, they've upped my total of "Likes" by something like 10%, which should hopefully make my editor happy.
Congrats!! I hope that your sales increase accordingly. You certainly deserve for them to.
Nice review - if I did't already know the series, it certainly would entice me to read it.
Well, as a librarian, I will say that we definitely pay more attention to starred reviews when it comes to ordering. Congrats!!
Excellent review! Whets the appetite with out giving too much away. And the "torn heart" angle gives just the right touch of morbid that all good mysteries should have. Can't wait can't wait can't wait (that me jumping up an down with excitement).
c -wow that is great. i usually take reviews of anything, books, movies, restaurants, plays, etc., with a big grain of salt since i so often disagree. but this one got it right!!
so excited to read the new book and then get to gush over it as well.
best,ali
Thanks, everyone!
And Paz, I tell myself I have to take all reviews with a grain of salt because if I believe the good ones than I also have to believe the bad, and that I don't want to do!
This is great stuff! Congrats on the boxed review. I am sooo looking forward to this book. Like Barbara, I am making sure that I finish up the books I'm currently reading so that Sebastain is my sole focus.
